Will a Red Dwarf Movie Becoming?

After eleven years, many may ask, "should this one still be pondered about beyond its axing?" Well Doug Naylor, the one guilty of creating the show, seems to think so. He has been planning and trying to make a movie version of Red Dwarf for the past four years. In 2004, he actually got up n' atoms with it and did all pre-production for Red Dwarf, The Motion Picture "Smegheads in Space". Winchester Films, the British guerilla film marketing company, took up the cause of advertising the Red Dwarf movie idea. However, so far it has not been able to do much beyond posting up an internet flyer page with all the info Doug could provide. Click on the movie poster below to see the flyer. It seem that the old BBC and the British Film Council just don't want to jump onboard the Red Dwarf any time soon. They want to do something different and are saying they need something less "commercial". It's funny to think that Red Dwarf is truly commercial these days. I can remember a time when the show was as underground as you could find on commercial television. Doug Naylor explained all reasons for the shows rejection, on a podium, to the packed audience of Dimension Jump, the annual Red Dwarf fan club. As a side note, Australia is the place Doug is mentioning for the filming and a totally new cast is what he wants for actors. Hope he doesn't pick any form the cast of "Neighbours."

The alternate ending of the Red Dwarf series was created because Doug realized that the series was coming to an end and wanted to end it with something more unique.
